About 850 plant species have been recorded on Socotra Island, 270 of which are endemic, meaning they are found on the island and not in any other place in the world. The island also contains ten species of very rare and endangered plants, seven of which are listed in the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red Book as very rare plants
